Operation Capabilities
The GFS-2 provides solutions for heterogeneous enterprise networks. Ports
can be linked to devices up to 500 meters using a short-wave (850nm)
transceiver and MMF (Multi Mode Fiber).
Described below are the types of Fibre Channel and GbE port connections
supported by the GFS-2 switch. The following sections provide examples of
these types of connections.
• Fibre Channel port – F-port which enables direct connection to one other end
station N-Port, and E-port which enables connection to another fabric switch as an
extension port or ISL (InterSwitch Link).
NOTE. The GFS-2 does not support Arbitrated Loop (FL-Port) connections.
• GbE port – IP Tunneling of two or more Fibre Channel fabrics over IP networks,
SAN
Tunneling of two or more Ethernet segments over a Fibre Channel fabric, and IP
Translation connecting Fibre Channel and Ethernet networks.
Examples of various implementations are given in the following section.
