Message Center Boards (PCB-002)
Theory of Operation:
There are three total Message Center boards: two sizes of LED Message Center boards plus the LCD Message Center
board. The Treadmill’s LED Message Center board has twenty-six 14-segment LED characters, while the Non-
Treadmill’s LED Message Center board has twenty 14-segment LED characters. The same LCD Message Center board
is used on both Tread and Non-Tread consoles. The LCD Message Center board has a 288x16 pixel LCD for displaying
languages and characters that cannot be displayed with 14-segment LED's. All three Message Center boards have the
same connectors and use the same Kinetis K17 processor.
Functions/Connectors:
J1 Main Board (Flat flex) Co3.3VDC & +5VDC power, SPI port, and 4 GPIO (used with LCD) from
Main Board.
J4 Spare I2C port For development and future use. Not populated.
J7 SWD pads For development and programming of Kinetis K17 processor. Not used in
console.
J9 K17 debug UART For development and debug of K17 processor. Not populated.
J10 Chassis Ground tab.
J12 Hill Profile / Speed Zone (Flat
flex)
Co3.3VDC power, I2C port, SPI port, 10 high-side LED drive signals, two
Board ID signals, and Detect signal to Hill Profile / Message Center board.
Troubleshooting tips:
• Try unlatching the zero-insertion force (ZIF) connectors, fully inserting the flex cables, and re-latching the
connectors to ensure that both flex connectors are fully seated.
• Upon power-up (ie. until the Main board’s i.MX8 is done booting up and can command the
