Using the Uplink ALC Setting
Uplink automatic level control (UL ALC) circuitry within the RAU provides auto-
matic level control on high-power signals in the uplink path. This functionality is
required to prevent RF signal compression caused by a single or multiple wireless
devices that are in very close proximity to an RAU. Compression causes signal degra-
dation and, ultimately, bit errors, and should be prevented. Two settings are available
to optimize UL ALC performance:
•
Single Operator and Protocol
: Use when only one operator and protocol is
on-the-air within the Unison system’s configured and adjacent frequency bands
(rarely used).
•
Multiple Operators
: Use when more than one operator and/or protocol is present
in the Unison system’s frequency or adjacent frequency bands (almost always
used).
Table 6-31 shows the frequency bands that are adjacent to the bands of which the sys-
tem is configured.
