Power-On Self Test (POST)
When you turn the printer on, it performs a Power-On Self Test. Check
for correct POST functioning by observing the following:
1. The printer status light remains off for 2 to 3 seconds.
2. The printer status light turns on.
3. The printer status light turns off.
4. The fuser lamp may come on, depending whether it is a hot or
cold start, then go off.
5. The printer status light flashes once long, then once short.
6. The fuser lamp turns on. You can see this by looking through the
back of the machine next to the parallel port. You may need to
remove the parallel cable.The printer may be idle for up to 60
seconds as the fuser warms to operating temperature. Printer
idle time is shorter if the fuser is already warm.
7. The fan turns on.
8. The printer status light comes on solid.
9. The paper feed motor turns on. The exit rollers turn briefly.
10. The paper feed motor turns off.
11. The printer status light stays on solid.

CLEAR PAPER
JAM Refer to the Paper Jam Service Check in the
Service Manual.
ADD ‘XXX’ PAPER Make sure the correct paper is loaded in the tray
specified in the setup box. If correct, go to the
appropriate paper tray service check in the Service
Manual.
FEED ‘XXX’
PAPER OR FEED
‘XXX’ENVELOPE Refer to the Manual Feed Service Check in the
Service Manual.
CLOSE COVER Close the top cover. If the error remains, refer to
the Cover Interlock Switch in the Service Manual.
CHECK PRINT
CARTRIDGE Make sure the print cartridge is installed correctly.
If the error remains, refer to the Transfer Roll
Service Check in the Service Manual.
