Determining Cue Distance and Cue Delay
Cue Distance
Cue distance is the distance from the cue sensor to the print array (Figure
1.10). The minimum cue distance is 1.0 inch (2.54 cm). The maximum
cue distance is dependent on the print resolution in the direction of
substrate movement and is shown in Table 1.1 on page 1-11. To
determine cue distance, slowly move the substrate under the cue sensor
until the light on the cue amplifier goes out. Stop the piece and measure
the distance from leading edge of the piece to the print array.
Cue Delay
Cue delay is the distance from the leading edge of the piece (or
substrate) to the start of the image (Figure 1.10). The value entered for
cue delay is based on the image position required for the job.

The minimum value for cue delay is zero. A value of zero causes printing
to start right at the edge of the substrate. The maximum value allowed for
cue delay depends on the print resolution in the direction of substrate
movement. See Table 1.1 on page 1-11.

procedures described in your systems software
Operator’s Guide.
Adding the cue distance and cue delay tells the printer how long to wait
before starting to print after the leading edge of the substrate is detected
by the cue sensor. Tach pulses are counted to determine when the
substrate has moved from the cue sensor to the print position.
