Identifying Print Defects
Voltage Defects
Incorrect charge voltage produces the following defects:
•
Dark defect
•
Pickout, or light defect.
Change the voltage in 5-volt increments to correct these defects.
Dark Defect
Charge voltage that is too low causes misdirected drops or extra drops,
both called ‘dark defect’. Figure 3.8 shows dark defect on a test pattern
run at voltage 115 and phase 41. Increase the voltage to eliminate dark
defect.

Pickout
Charge voltage that is too high typically causes missing or misdirected
drops called ‘pickout’ or ‘light defect.’ Figure 3.9 shows pickout on a test
pattern run at voltage 135 and phase 41. Reduce the voltage to eliminate
pickout.
