Fuses
Fuses may be replaced only by authorized and qualified personnel.
At the rear of the device there are the fuses of the mains input socket, whose fuse ratings are
printed on the rear of the device, see section “5.5 “Rear Panel”, page 30.

Safety Systems of the Device
The device was designed taking into account the strictest consideration of personal safety. The
built-in safety measures in the system prevent incorrect operations:
•
Upon activation of the device or return of the operating voltage after a power failure, the
device switches into STANDBY mode – the MCO 25 plus laser cannot be activated.
•
The laser cannot be activated either as long as the mirror joint arm is not connected
(otherwise the message
Interlock Error
will appear on the display).
•
The visible pilot laser light is emitted at the end of the mirror joint arm (focusing
handpiece) with a maximum output of 5 mW, which corresponds to a class 3R laser
system. The brightness can be reduced. The safety requirements for class 3R must be
observed.
•
When the laser is operational, the key
LASER READY
lights up.
The shutter (safety lock) remains closed until the foot switch is activated and the laser
light thus released.
•
A clearly audible acoustic signal is sounded during emission of laser light.
•
Regarding the laser activation duration, for safety reasons the foot switch has absolute
priority over the set pulse times, i. e. when the foot switch is not pressed any longer, the
emission of laser light is stopped immediately even if the preset pulse time has not ended
yet.
•
To prevent unintentional changes of the laser parameters during the surgical procedure, all
keys on the control panel are blocked when the foot switch is pressed.
•
The laser output is kept constant (according to the set value and within the native
tolerances) using a microprocessor. If the selected power cannot be kept, the user will see
a corresponding message on the display and be offered an alternative setting.
•
In operation mode LASER READY, class 4 infrared laser radiation is emitted when the foot
switch is activated. Therefore, all persons present in the laser area must wear protective
goggles when the warning lamps light up, see section 3.3 “Laser Safety”, page 16.
•
It is possible to use an external door contact as a part of the safety system. See also
section 5.5.8 “Interlock”, page 33.
•
Pressing the
EMERGENCY STOP
switch will deactivate the emission of laser light
immediately in case of emergencies.
