Autotest General Operation
Two-way Autotest operation can be initiated from either instrument.
One-way Autotest is always initiated from the light source end.
Autotest provides a real time measurement display. This is very
convenient to check that a connection looks good and stable before
deciding to store a test result, resulting in a significant improvement in
test quality, ease of operation and throughput compared to many other
instruments.
Autotest transfers various data between test instruments. In Two-Way
Autotest, data transfer is bi-directional, so both instruments appear to
operate in the same way, with the same displayed results, and the
complete test can be stored at either end. In One-Way Autotest with a
source and meter, the data transfer is one way, e.g. to the meter.
Autotest detection remains activated for about 8 seconds after each
fiber disconnect, so the user can change optical connections without
re-starting Autotest each time, thus achieving productivity gains.
Autotest supports both local and remote referencing. The nominal
source power is also transmitted. Although this is helpful, it is very
inferior to taking a proper reference.
Two-way Autotest has an interlock / communication protocol also
linked through to
KITS™
software, to assist users to work quickly
through a group of fibers and reliably fill in a test report in real time.
Autotest works in situations where high loss or

selective elements
stop some

from transmitting. The meter will detect and show
whatever
λ
are successfully transmitted.
The excellent test stability of Kingfisher test equipment is highly
relevant to Autotest operation since the requirement to re-reference
the source & meter is greatly reduced compared to most other
equipment.
Autotest reduces source warm up drift and battery consumption
compared to manual operation.
