Switch to the exterior (Spot) view and confirm that all the doors are closed and the ground equipment is
removed.
Before starting the engines we need to switch
ON
the beacon lights. The switch is located on the overhead
panel. We can also switch ON the pitot head heaters.
The VC10 Type 1101 requires a ground air supply to be connected in order to start the first engine. Subsequent
engines can be started using cross-bleed air. From the VC10 Professional menu, connect the ground air supply.
The standard operating procedure for starting the VC10 is to start engine 3, 4, 2 and then 1, in that order. We will
therefore begin by starting engine 3. The procedure for starting the other engines is the same as for engine 3.
The engine start panel in the Flight Engineer’s table contains the primary starting switches and indicators, but we
will start by configuring the controls found on other panels.
On the Engineer’s fuel panel, open the engine 3 LP cock (switch UP). Confirm that the associated magnetic
indicator shows in-line.
