Chapter 26 Troubleshooting
26.4 Transfer Ribbon
Troubles (not Easy-
Coder 501 LL)
Transfer ribbon becomes wrinkled
• Check the alignment of the media. Are all guides positioned as
to guide the media closely along the printer’s center section? Is
the media roll pressed as far in on the unwind unit as possible?
• Check that nothing obstructs the path of the transfer ribbon, for
example cables to the printhead or label-taken sensor.
• Check the printhead pressure, see Chapter 24.3. Decrease the
pressure somewhat and test for both wrinkles and printout con-
trast. You may need to feed out 25–50 cm of ribbon (1–2 ft.)
before you can decide if the adjustment have produced the
desired result.
• Check the adjustment of the ribbon assist roller, see Chapter
24.3. Do not change the adjustment before you have performed
all other checks mentioned above.
• Check that the ribbon supply bobbin is centered in relation to
the transfer ribbon as described in Chapter 7.2.
• Check the brake torque of the ribbon supply and rewind shafts,
see Chapters 7.2 and 7.3.
• In case of a printer fi tted with a Ribbon Save Device, refer to
Chapter 26.6.
Transfer ribbon breaks
• Check that the ribbon is loaded correctly and is of a quality
approved by Intermec.
• Check that the ribbon supply shaft has not become stuck, see
Chapter 7.2.
• Check that the ribbon is fi tted above the label stop sensor.
• Check that the printer is set up for the type of thermal transfer
ribbon in use.
• Check printhead voltage on Testpoint P24, see Chapter 17.7.
