VAPOR LOCK
Vapor lock is a condition that is primarily caused by high engine
compartment temperatures as a result of idling for long periods, idling
after periods of high speed running, or heat soak after shutdown due to the
discontinuance of water flow.
NOTICE: Always run your bilge blower for 4 minutes prior to starting the
engine and whenever you are operating at low speeds.
All Ilmor High-Performance Marine engines are equipped with our
exclusive Anti-Vapor Lock Valve, which separates fuel from vapor and
redirects the vapor back to the boat’s fuel tank, while directing high-
pressure liquid fuel to the engine.
In hotter climates and given the variations in gasoline formulations, the
possibility for vapor lock may still exist. Some steps to take to help alleviate
vapor lock are:
1. Always run your bilge blower for 4 minutes before starting the engine
and while running at lower speeds.
2. Partially open the engine hatch to allow for more air circulation prior
to starting.
WARNING!
Never run your boat underway with the
engine hatch open.
3. If vapor lock condition persists, contact your Ilmor High-Performance
Marine service center.
