The Ilmor High-Performance Marine engines support engine coolant
temperature, oil temperature, oil pressure, battery voltage and seawater
pressure through analog or otherwise compatible electric gauges. A 0–5
volt output is provided to indicate drive angle as well as a tachometer signal
output.
Through the standard NMEA 2000 or J1939 CAN network, a multitude of
parameters for gauges and displays are made available through aftermarket
suppliers, allowing you to completely eliminate the use of traditional
analog gauges.
analog Gauges
Temperature:
Indicates the temperature of the engine coolant. The
required range of the temperature gauge is 100° – 280°F (38° – 138°C).
See Operating Specifications on page 11-2 for normal operating
temperatures.
Oil Pressure:
Indicates the engine oil pressure. The required range of the
oil pressure gauge is 0–100 psi (0–689 kPa). See Operating Specifications
on page 11-2 for normal oil pressure.
Tachometer:
Indicates engine speed in revolutions per minute. The range
of the tachometer should be 0–7,000 rpm. See General Specifications
on page 11-1 for normal rpm range. The tachometer must be calibrated
appropriately for the MV10 or MV8 engines.
Water Pressure:
Indicates seawater pressure to the raw water side of the
cooling system. See Operating Specifications on page 11-2 for normal
seawater pressure. (Not available on the MV8-570.)
engine monitoring – malfunction Indicator Lamp
(mIL)
The Ilmor High-Performance Marine engine alarm system uses a visual
alarm to indicate an alarm condition in which any of the monitored engine
parameters falls out of the nominal operating range. In all cases, the proper
response to the alarm is to throttle back immediately and check the gauges
to see which system is out of range. The Malfunction Indicator Lamp
(MIL) will remain lit until the issue has been corrected and rediagnosed,
and the engine has gone through three full operating cycles. If the fault
continues to occur, the light will remain on until the failure condition
has passed or the boat has been taken to a service center to be correctly
diagnosed and repaired.
A MIL will be indicated on the dash for each engine installed.
