Removing the cover

The following information describes how to remove the cover.

Cover release
lever

Screws

Complete the following steps to remove the cover from the server/workstation:

Review the information in “Before you begin” on page 45.

Turn off the server/workstation and all attached devices and disconnect all
external cables and power cords.

Remove the server/workstation from the rack (see “Rack installation” on
page 46).

Remove the two screws from the rear of the server/workstation.

Pull out on the cover release lever at the back of the server/workstation, to
release the cover.

Slide the cover back, then up and off the server/workstation.

Attention:

For proper cooling and airflow, replace the cover before turning

on the server/workstation. Operating the server/workstation for extended
periods of time (over 30 minutes) with the cover removed might damage
server/workstation components.

Remove the clear shield that covers the inside of the server/workstation.

Note:

It is not necessary to remove the shield when you are installing memory
modules or installing an adapter in the PCI slots.
