Rack or Surface Mounting
Use the cabling chart provided by your network administrator to determine whether the Expansion Unit
will be mounted on a surface or in a rack. If you are using the ATM Workgroup Switch Cabling Chart
that came with the
IBM 8250/8260/8285: Planning and Site Preparation Guide, GA33-0285, this
information is found in the top portion of that chart.
Notes:
1. Make sure that there is adequate space around the Base Unit to provide sufficient ventilation for the
unit. The Base Unit requires at least 100 mm (4 in) spacing at the front and 300 mm (12 in) at the
back.
2. Make sure the mounting location meets the environmental requirements of the Base Unit
(temperature, humidity, ventilation, and so on) as described in Appendix A, “Specifications” on
page 185.
3. Before installing the Expansion Unit, be sure to read “Electronic Emission Notices” on page xvii.
If the Expansion Unit is to be:
Ÿ Rack mounted (the preferred mounting style), continue with “Rack Mounting the Expansion Unit” on
page 61.
Ÿ
Surface mounted, go to “Surface Mounting the Expansion Unit” on page 64.
