Linking Subsystems to Form a Cluster (SSI Interface)

An ATM cluster is a group of ATM switches connected by SSI trunks.

Guidelines for SSI Trunks:

The bandwidth you specify (or default) must be identical at both ends of an SSI link.

The total bandwidth budget for all SSI ports defined in the Base Unit and Expansion Unit is
212Mbps.

The total Reserved Bandwidth of the Base Unit and Expansion Unit (for class-A PVCs and NNI
ports, for example) cannot exceed 180Mbps.

Performance Considerations:

Each cluster should contain no more than 25 switches

Switches should not be separated from each other by more than 5 hops. (Call set up and cell transit
time are proportional to the number of hops.)
