Chapter 4. Troubleshooting
To troubleshoot your cabling network, start with “Symptoms and Solutions.”
Continue through the sections in this chapter until the problem is resolved.
You may wish to keep spare 7299 components on hand as backups in case of
failure. You might want to keep a spare on hand at each location in a distributed
Network.
If you determine that a 7299 is faulty, contact an authorized repair center for repair.
Symptoms and Solutions
Table 4-1 lists the common symptoms of problems that might occur with devices
when using the 7299. A device is usually a terminal (display, printer, or PC) but a
7299 Hub is also a device to a 7299 Multiplexer. See the indicated page for
directions.
If none of the symptoms in Table 4-1 apply to your situation, complete the
“Verification Checklist” on page 4-6. Then continue with the procedures in
“Debugging the 7299” on page 4-7.

A Device Is Down or Unstable
1. Check the device type that is defined at the host:
If the device type is
not correct, update the host’s device type table.
If the device type is correct, continue with step 2.
2. Check whether the device capacity of the WSC port or the WSC was
exceeded:
If the address capacity of the port was exceeded, attach the device to an
alternate port.
If the address capacity of the WSC was exceeded, attach the device to an
alternate WSC.
If neither capacity was exceeded, continue with step 3 on page 4-2.
