Key Requirements

The IBM 7299 Express Products for AS/400 requires an available host workstation
controller port on one of the following:

AS/400 host

AS/400 Advanced 36 host

System/38 host

System/36 host

5494 Remote Control Unit

5394 Remote Control Unit

5294 Remote Control Unit

To operate using the 5250 Express Data Stream enhanced functions, the following
are required:

An AS/400 configured with Workstation Controllers #6180, #9280, #2720, and
#2722.

5250 Express Adapters

Emulation software that supports 5250 Express Data Stream, such as the 5250
Express Program, client access V3R1M2 or later, Personal Communications
V4.2 or later

Note: If any device attached to the host workstation controller port is running at
1 Mbps mode, all devices attached to that port will also run at 1 Mbps mode. The
following devices run at 1 Mbps mode:

6299 multiplexers

5494 Remote Control Unit

5394 Remote Control Unit

5294 Remote Control Unit

When operating at the non-optimized, 1 Mbps mode, all IBM-compatible 5250-type
devices are supported.

Software Requirements

To use the 5250 Express Data Stream, OS/400 Version 3 Release 7 (or later) with
the latest PTF must be installed on the AS/400 host.

To determine what PC software is required to support the 5250 Express Data
Stream on PCs with 5250 Express adapters installed or to determine the OS/400
PTF number that is required, refer to Hardware Announcement 197-130, dated
June 17, 1997, or visit our web page at:

In the future, other hosts, devices, and software might also support the 5250 Express Data Stream. For current information,
contact your local IBM representative or your Authorized IBM Supplier.
