Section 4: Inspecting the Fiber Optic Cabling
This section helps you determine whether your fiber optic cabling is suitable for use
with a 7299.

Do you own the cabling in your establishment?
or
If you do not own the cabling, can you obtain the owner's
permission to use the spare pairs?
If you do not own the cabling, you must either obtain permission
from the owner to use the fiber optic cabling or install new cable. If
the owner of the existing cabling gives you permission to use it, ask
for the wiring schedules. You need accurate wiring schedules to
install a data network.

Does the existing or the new cabling meet the specifications that
are listed in Table 2-2 on page 2-8 and “Fiber Optic Conventions
and Standards” on page 6-5?
If your cabling does not meet the specifications, install new fiber
optic cabling that meets the specifications. If your existing cabling
meets the specifications, you can use the cable with run distances
up to the maximum lengths specified in Table 2-2 on page 2-8 and
“Fiber Optic Conventions and Standards” on page 6-5.
