Releasing the magazines manually
If you cannot remove the magazines via the OCP or RMI, do the following:
1.
Unplug the power cord from the device.
2.
From the back of the device, find the access holes for the right and left magazines. See

To manually release a magazine, insert the end of a small metal pin or straightened paper
clip into the magazine access hole at the back of the device about 1.5 cm (0.6 inch), while
another person grasps the magazine on that side and pulls it out of the front of the unit. See

Push a paper clip into the access hole.
1.
Pull the magazine out of the front of the unit.
2.
IMPORTANT:
Do not force the pin once you encounter resistance. Doing so can damage
the device.
4.
Repeat step 3 for the other magazine if necessary.
5.
If other tapes are still in the device, or if you were unable to manually remove the magazines
and drive, contact HP customer service for further instructions. See

The wellness test
The wellness test exercises all Autoloader and tape drive hardware, except the external connections,
and is useful for verifying that a device is working correctly. The wellness test requires operator
interaction with the mailslot so cannot be initiated from the RMI.
