FRONT WHEEL/SUSPENSION/STEERING

Check the fork piston for score marks, and excessive
or abnormal wear.

Check the fork piston ring for wear or damage.
Check the rebound spring for fatigue or damage.

Replace any damaged component if necessary.

Set the fork pipe in V-blocks and measure the fork
pipe runout with a dial indicator.
Actual runout is 1/2 the total indicator reading.

Visually inspect the fork pipe and guide bushings.
Replace the bushing if there is excessive scoring or
scratching, or if the teflon is worn so that the copper
surface appears on more than 3/4 of the entire sur-
face.

Check the back-up ring; replace it if there is any dis-
tortion at the points shown.

Do not remove the

fork pipe bushing

unless it is neces-

sary to replace it

with a new one.

Carefully remove the fork pipe bushing by prying
the slot with a screwdriver until the bushing can be
pulled off by hand.
