SMS 

The hydroSpider is capable of receiving commands via SMS. These commands can perform various 
actions including changing settings, requesting reports, retrieving the setup file, and remotely 
calibrating inputs. For a complete list of available commands, see Appendix D - SMS Commands.

Enclosure 

The hydroSpider comes in a compact IP60 enclosure designed to fit inside a tipping bucket rain 
gauge: 
 

 

Note

: the hydroSpider’s moisture sensor should be used as part of ongoing maintenance to avoid 

damage due to moisture accumulating within the unit. 
 

Note

: to avoid damage to the hydroSpider, it is critical to prevent insect infestation.

Available Add-ons 

There are a number of available software and hardware add-ons which extend the functionality of 
the hydroSpider. The currently available add-ons are briefly described below: 

 

Intelligent Sensors (SDI-12 and RS-485)

: This factory add-on allows the hydroSpider to 

collect data from SDI-12 and Modbus sensors. Modbus sensors are connected over an RS485 
link. Both SDI-12 and Modbus sensors can be communicated with simultaneously. 
The total number of inputs that can be monitored increases from 8 to 16.

FlowShark Triton

: Allows the hydroSpider to collect data from ADS FlowShark Triton units. 

 

Live SMS

: Extends the SMS capabilities of the hydroSpider. Features include remote web 

access, SMS alert escalation, more SMS commands, and the ability to schedule modem 
power ups to create communication windows. 

 

LCD / Keypad

: Gives the hydroSpider an external LCD and keypad. This 

enables the user to browse through the inputs, and see additional unit 
information directly on the unit itself. 

 

DNP3

: Allows the hydroSpider2 to be monitored by a SCADA system
