Water Safety Kit (WSK)

8.0 Water Safety Kit

Included in the

Potatest

TM

is the

Water Safety Kit (WSK)

. Lightweight, with a shoulder

strap, it is removable from the main kit and can be carried easily to the field. It can be used to
conduct quick and accurate analysis on-site of the critical indicators of microbiological quality.

These are

pH, Residual Chlorine, and Turbidity

. Each of the tests for these parameters

is relatively quick and simple to carry out and the results can give a strong indication
of the likely microbiological quality of the water source.

Because of this, it makes sense to conduct these tests first of all, before a full microbiological
analysis is carried out, which is more complex and time consuming.

The WSK has been designed to complement the increased emphasis now being placed upon

Water Safety Plans (WSPs)

and their role in assessing and managing risk throughout

each step of the drinking water supply process.
