Pull filter funnel from rubber base support.

Invert filter funnel, place on clean

work-surface.

Peel back clear membrane filter outer

wrapper. Use sterile forceps to separate

the white, gridded filter from blue

backing paper.

When water is filtered, remove filter funnel

& vacuum pump from rubber base.

Remove membrane filter with sterile

forceps; place it grid-side-up on wetted

growth pad in petri dish.

Sterilise forceps tips by passing

them through flame from a lighter.

Allow them to cool.

Place the membrane filter directly onto the

bronze filter support disc ensuring the

gridded side is face-up.

Lock membrane filter in place by pushing

filter funnel firmly down into position in blue

rubber base. Ensure filter funnel is in the

“Filtration” position.

Pour water sample into filter funnel up to

100ml graduation. Connect hand-vacuum

pump to membrane filtration unit and use

pump to filter the sample.

Replace the petri dish lid and label

appropriately. Place into the petri dish

rack until you are ready to incubate.
