Installing storage controllers and power fail
safeguard modules
For some storage controllers, you can order a power fail safeguard module to prevent data loss
when power outage occurs.
A power fail safeguard module provides a flash card and a supercapacitor. When a system power
failure occurs, this supercapacitor can provide power for a minimum of 20 seconds. During this
interval, the storage controller transfers data from DDR memory to the flash card, where the data
remains indefinitely or until the controller retrieves the data.
Guidelines
For the storage controllers available for the server, see "Drive configurations."
Make sure the power fail safeguard module is compatible with the storage controller. For the
compatibility matrix, see "Storage controllers."
The supercapacitor might have a low charge after the power fail safeguard module is installed or
after the server is powered up. If the system displays that the supercapacitor has low charge, no
action is required. The system will charge the supercapacitor automatically.
