MIDI Out Connection Function
The MIDI out connector can either send only data produced by the Liquid Tracks, or it can transmit both data from the
Liquid Tracks and data from the MIDI In connector. The later would act as a MIDI out and a MIDI THRU on the same
connector. You can modify to fit your specific wiring needs.
MASTER / SLAVE Mode
Master and Slave mode can become very sophisticated quickly. Liquid Tracks allows one device to be a master with an
unlimited number of slave devices. There are three separate ways to manage and process a master / slave concept
based on particular needs. This section will focus solely on the built in mechanisms, however, those with complex midi
rigs can “manually” process Master/Slave using MIDI commands and master clocks. The built in functions will handle
most situations from simple to very complex.
What is Master / Slave Mode?
So what is it? In simple terms, a Master is triggered just as if were the only Liquid Tracks in the rig. All preset
modes are supported, all link types and all trigger types as well. A Master will “sync” with all it’s slaves by telling
them what Bank, what preset and when to trigger their presets. It will also manage transport issues. Usually it is
only the master that receives data from the MIDI in, and the MIDI out connector on the Master is set to OUT
ONLY, and it is the out of the master that goes to the MIDI in of the first slave. The slaves are connected from the
MIDI THRU of the first slave to the MIDI IN of the second slave unit, and so on.
When the Master is triggered, it will sync and start itself and all the slave units at the same time. This essentially
allows for limitless amounts of audio and midi channels. In fact by connecting individual slave MIDI Outs to its
own network of midi devices, it is plausible to manage hundreds of audio tracks and hundreds of MIDI tracks
and separate rigs at the same time.
Imagine one Liquid Tracks for each band member, where the drummer gets a click track, the guitarist gets an
IEM mix + MIDI to control his/her rig, the Bass player gets another IEM MIX and his/her own MIDI controlled
rig, and so on. Each player can have a custom IEM mix, perhaps even a PA mix for backing tracks, and automated
midi control. Perhaps another Liquid Tracks is actually controlling the lights and FX of a show. When these units
