Drain,

and then

fill

the

lower

unit

with OMC Lower

Unit Gear

Lubricant,

outlined in Section 10-8.

the swivel pin and the

tilt

tube with Multipurpose

Lubricant,

or equiv-

alent.

Clean

the engine

thoroughly.

Coat

the

power head with Corrosion and Rust Preven-

tative

spray.

Install the hood and then apply

a thin film of fresh engine oil to all painted
surfaces.

Remove

the

propeller.

Apply Perfect

Seal or a waterproof

sealer

to the propeller

shaft,

and then install the propeller

back in

position.

FINAL WORDS:

Be sure

all drain holes

in the

gear

housing are

open

and free

obstruction.

Check

to be sure the

FLUSH

plug has been removed to allow all water

drain.

Trapped water could freeze,

expand,

and cause expensive castings to crack.

ALWAYS

store

the

engine off the

boat

with the lower unit below the powerhead to

prevent

any water

from

being trapped

in-

side.

The

ideal

storage

position

for

outboard

is to hang it with the lower unit

down.

If hanging is not practical,

lay the

outboard

on its back.

This will place

the

lower unit below the power head.

Adding

lubricant

the

lower

unit

small

horsepower

engine.

The lubricant

must always be added

through

the

drain

plug

after

the upper

vent

plug

has

been removed.

all the

blades

are

in good

condition.

If any of the blades become bent

or nicked,

such damage

tions in the motor.

Remove and inspect

the

propeller.

Use a file

trim

nicks

and

burrs.

TAKE

CARE

not

remove

any

more material

than is absolutely

necessary.

For a complete

check, take the propeller

your marine

dealer

where the proper equip-

ment

and

knowledgeable

mechanics

are

available

to perform a proper job at modest

cost.

Inspect

the propeller

shaft

to be sure it

is still true and not bent.

If the shaft is not

perfectly

true, it should be replaced.

Sea

weed

entangled

in the propeller.

The propeller

should be removed

frequently

and any foreign

material,

especially

fiSh

line,

removed

before

can

cause

damage.
