FINAL DRIVE ASSEMBLY

NOTE: If disassembly of planetary is necessary, refer to PLANETARY CARRIER HOUSING in this
Section.

6. Install an eyebolt 5/8”-11UNC-2B in the end of shaft (33) and lift shaft straight up. Remove

bearing retainer plate (31) and shims (30). Keep shims together for proper installation.

7. Using a puller and driver as shown in Fig. 7F.11, remove ring gear assembly (29 and 32) from

cover (17). Heat ring gear hub assembly (29) to 260 [

°

C]

with a torch if necessary. Separate

ring gear (32) from hub (29) by removing retainer plates (28).

8. Install four eyebolts 7/8”-9x2 3/4” 90 [

°

] apart in hub (22) as shown in Fig. 7F.12. and attach

a hoist to two opposite eyebolts. Install a bar in two remaining eyebolts and position
a hydraulic ram under bar. Use ram to free bearing cone (27) from shaft of cover (17) and lift
hub (22) off with hoist. If replacement is necessary, remove bearing cups (19 and 27), and
sprocket drive segments (44) from hub (22). Remove oil seal (18).

9. Lift spacer (20) from cover (17). Bearing cone (19) should not be removed from cover (17)

unless replacement is necessary. Shield (21) need not be removed unless replacement or
cleaning is necessary.
