Symptom
Corrective Action
Modem does not connect at
33400 bps.
Your modem’s speed is limited by the type of
modem you are connecting to and the quality
of the phone lines that you use. Determine the
type of modem you are calling or answering.
For slower modems, the highest mutually
supported speed is the maximum connect
speed possible.
Modem does not dial out.
Ensure the telephone cable connections are
secure.
If the software displays NO DIALTONE,
enter the ATX3 command to make it dial
without detecting dial tone.
If you need an outside-access code, such as 9,
include it and a comma before the number
you are dialing.
Ensure that you are using ATDT for tone
dialing or ATDP for pulse phone lines.
Ensure the country code is set.
Modem does not connect.
(If it displays NO CARRIER
after dialing the number, it did
not connect.)
Use a hand-held telephone to dial the remote
modem. If the remote modem does not
answer, the problem is with the remote
modem.
Use a line that does not require an outside-
access code.
Lower your connection speed.
Use M, Y, or A dial modifiers.
Shut off extra features using AT-J0, AT-K0,
or AT%L3.
