9.1. Operation via Terminal
Configuration of the router should be performed in two stages:
•
Physical configuration of the router: definition of the port to be used for routing, its speed and
clock source (when applicable). These configurations are performed along with other tributary channels
under slot 6 in ports 1 and 2.
•
Logic configuration of the router: high-level configuration, in which interface addresses and the
enabling of each interface are configured. The protocol used by WAN, routing protocols, static routes,
gateway default and other parameters (when applicable) are also defined in this configuration phase,
which is performed in the Network Parameters menu.
Physical configurations of the router are only applicable to WAN interfaces because the output of the
Ethernet interface is always made available via the RJ45 connector located in the backplane of the
equipment.
9.2. WAN1 Port Physical Configurations
The physical part of WAN1 always runs along with the management link and can be configured out of the
E3 payload, at a rate of 40kbit/s, or on one of the E1 channels available in the multiplexer, at a rate of
2Mbit/s.
This configuration is performed in the table of tributary channels, according to figure below. In the example,
E1 channel #11 of the E3 payload is allocated to the use of WAN1 and management. Note that this
channel should be set to the same position in all multiplexers that are part of the ring, under penalty of
losing the management / WAN1 link.
If the indicator that corresponds to the use of management channels (“M”) does not appear in the
aggregate map, the equipment automatically uses the 40-kbit/s channel out of the payload (standard
configuration).
