3.2 RS232 serial lines 

 
Serial  RS232  connectors  are  available  directly  on  the  back  panel  of  IB-System-R  (connectors 
CON8  and  CON9).  It  is  possible  to  use  these  serial  lines  to  connect  data  terminals  and 
supervision  systems,  or  to  update  the  firmware  on  IB-System  cards.  There  is  also  the  CON10 
connector  that  can  be  used  to  connect  a modem  to perform  remote  telephone  assistance.  Port 
CON10 can be used only if CON8 is not used, only one port can be used at same time. 

Warning

:  in  order  to perform firmware  updates  on  the  system  cards  it  is  obligatory  to  only  use 

the computer serial line connected via a cable to MS3 on the rear of the system.  
 

3.2.1 Connecting a modem 

Use connector CON10 to connect a modem. In this case CON8 must not be used.

Il  is  possible  to  use  a  modem  to  provide  remote  system  assistance;  connect  the  modem  to 
CON10 connector, unplug the server card to access the modem jumper settings: 

  MODE1: modem line is always activated. 

  MODE2: modem line is automatically activated on incoming call. 

  MODE3: modem line is never activated. 

Jumper J2 must be closed when a modem is used; led DCD lights when modem line is activated.
