2. INSTALLATION 

2.1 Preliminary information 

The next page shows the 

IB System R

 and 

IB System R Small

 components, and their functions. 

The system, fully equipped, is designed for the management of 128 field devices (or 64 barriers) 
comprising the following components: 

 

  1 x IB-SERVER-R card 

  2 x IB-HUB-R cards 

  16 x IB-ISLAND8 cards 

 

2 x 19” 3U racks 

  2 x 4 slot back panels 

  6 x 2 slot back panels 

  2 x power supply with battery charger 

  5 x aluminium front panel 

 

All  system  connections  are  made  at  the  rear  of  the  rack  using  10,  16  or  2

0  pin  “flat  cable” 

connectors. The connections comprise: 

 

  12 x RS485 serial lines for sensor connections 

  4 x RS232 lines for PCs connection suitable for system management and/or maintenance 

  1 x RS485 line for system supervision (through Hyper Terminal) 

  5 x static N.C. relay contacts suitable for signalling alarms and faults 

  512 x static N.C. relay contacts suitable for field device status signalling. 

 

From these connectors, using 16 or 20 way cables (optional), connections can be brought back 
to  standard  DIN  connector  headers  (optional,  code  IB  TERMINAL  BLOCK),  to  which  the  field 
wiring can be connected. 
The parallel port for the chronological events list printer is a 25 pole female "D Type" connector 
mounted directly on the 4 slot main back panel. 
The minimum configuration can manage up to 8 field devices or 8 barriers and comprises: 

 

  1 x IB-SERVER-R card 

  1 x IB-HUB-R card 

  1 x IB-ISLAND8 card 

 

1 x 19” 3U rack 

  1 x 4 slot Back Panel 

  1 x power supply with battery charger 

  9 x aluminium front panels 

 

The minimum configuration above is represented by the code: IB-SYSTEM RACK. 
Any intermediate configuration is possible. 

 

NB:

  For  configurations  up  to  16  devices  or  16  barriers  it  is  possible  to  use  IB-SYSTEM-R 

SMALL. It is allocated in a mini 

Rack 9,5” 3U and it is composed by the following parts: 

 

  1 x IB-SERVER-R card 

  1 x IB-HUB-R card 

  1 x IB-ISLAND8 card  + 1 optional additional IB-ISLAND card 

  1 x 

9,5” 3U rack 

  1 x power supply with battery charger 

  3 x aluminium front panels
