INCLINOMETER D’OSUALDO
3.1
INTENDED USE AND DESCRIPTION
Instrument for the evaluation of the gibbus (rotation angle
of the trunk in anteroflexion) in the patient suffering from
scoliosis and the Cobb angle on radiographs.
It consists of a nearly rectangular Plexiglas element bearing
a goniometric scale, at the center of which there is a stick
which
is free to rotate and bears a bubble; the stick’s free
end bears the reading point for the goniometric
scale.
The longer side of the rectangle features a recess to
facilitate application to the patient (in the case of
the spinous processes being protruding).

SETUP AND USE
The device does not require installation and is ready for use.
Angle of trunk rotation measurement
The Scoliosis Research Society defines the angle of
trunk rotation as the angle between a horizontal
plane and a plane crossing the most prominent point
of the thoracic gibbus.
1.
Position the patient as described in Adams’ test or
forward - bending test: bent trunk, extended
knees, arms dangling forward
2.
Position the instrument, gently laid on the patient’s
back, searching for the highest point of rotation
(apex of the gibbus)
3.
Level the rotating stick
4.
Read the degree of rotation
5.
Measure any other gibbus
