SELF-CORRECTION WHILE PRONE
MEASUREMENT WHILE WEARING THE BRACE
In order to measure kyphosis within the brace one needs:
- to adapt the brace by making a 2 cm wide round hole in
the dorsal pad;
- to adapt the instrument by changing the intermediate
arm: the arm used to this pourpose is provided with a
smaller foot in order to enter the hole of the dorsal pad.
To measure the correction within the brace it is advisable
to take 3 measurements as it follows:
- First measurement while wearing the brace (fixing the
lenght of the chord pay attention not to invade lordosis).
- Second: mark with a dermographic pencil the point
corresponding to the hole (or intermediate foot).
- Third: remove the brace and take a second measurement
in standard posture without changing the lenght of the
chord and using the skin mark as a reference for the
intermediate foot.
- Forth: take a third measurement while making a self-
correction.
- Since the segment measured in-brace usually does not
correspond to the entire kyphosis,it is advisable to use the
radius table (to prevent any confusion with Cobb values).
The more the measurement taken in-brace approaches to
self correction measurement, the better the brace is
working.
