NOTE: The carburetor must be in sta lled on
the engine and p rop erly adjusted p rio r to in s ta ll
ation of the p la stic caps.
1. Thoroughly w arm up the engine. B e su re
choke is open.
2. Check dwell reading and adjust, if n e c e s
sa r y . D w ell reading on the 350 V8 engine is 28 to
32 d e g r e e s.
3. Adjust ignition tim ing to 4°BTDC with v a c-

uum advance hose disconnected and plugged. R e
connect vacuum advance h o se.
4. Adjust engine id le sp eed sc r e w (fig s. 3 and
4) until id le sp eed is 650 rpm .
5. With engine running at id le sp eed , adjust
id le m ixture sc r e w s to give highest steady idle
sp eed .
6. Readjust engine id le sp eed a s d escrib ed in
Step 4, to 650 rpm.
7. Turn id le m ixture sc r e w s IN, equally, by
rotating clo ck w ise to LEAN m ixture until the en
gine id le speed rea ch es 600 rpm.
8. P o sitio n p la stic lim ite r caps as shown in
figu re 12, so that tangs on p la stic cap a re located
on either sid e of b o ss on th rottle body. Then c a r e
fully push lim ite r caps onto id le m ixture s c r e w s
until they snap into p osition .

ADJUSTMENTS
IDLE SPEED ADJUSTMENT
1. Idle speed adjustm ent should be p erform ed
with the engine at operating tem perature, a ir c lea n
er in sta lled parking brake applied, and driving
w h e e ls blocked.
2. A ir conditioning (when used) m ust be turned
ON.
3. Check the distributor dwell reading. D w ell
reading on 366 and 427 engines should be 28 to 32
d e g r e e s.
NOTE: When settin g ignition tim ing the term
BTDC m eans "Before Top Dead C en ter.”
4. Adjust ignition tim ing to 8°BTDC.
5. Adjust id le sp eed sc r e w (fig. 13) until en
gine sp eed rea ch es 550 rpm.
AIR VENT VALVE ADJUSTMENT (F ig. 15)
1. B ack off id le sp eed sc r e w until throttle
v a lv es a re fully clo se d . (Choke valve open and
th rottle arm off idle screw .)
2. Check clea ra n ce betw een valve and se a t.
C learan ce should be 0.060".
3. Bend air vent valve rod to adjust, if n e c e s
sa r y .
