VACUUM GAUGE
Two vacuum gauges are u sed oft som e v e
h ic le s . Two gauges a re standard equipment on a ll

sch o o l b u ses (d u a l-sp lit-b ra k e sy stem ) and optional
on a ll other v e h ic le s equipped with dual (split)
brake s y s te m s . T h ese gauges a re mounted on a
sp e c ia l bracket below the cen ter of the dash panel.
One gauge is connected to one vacuum s y s te m
of the dual brake sy ste m and the other gauge is
connected to the other vacuum sy s te m . Vacuum
gauge readings may d iffer during operation of the
v e h ic le . H ow ever, if the readings d iffer by ten
in ch es of m ercury or m ore for an extended p erio d
of v e h ic le operation the vacuum sy s te m s should be
checked im m ed iately to determ ine c a u s e s . If the
vacuum gauge is su sp ected of being faulty, check
gauge according to in stru ctio n s in S e r v ic e Manual
S T -3 3 1 -7 1 , page 5A -2 2 . O th erw ise, check vacuum
sy ste m com ponents for lea k s or m alfu n ction s.
