Coolant m eeting GM S pecification 1899-M should
be used.
NOTE: A lcohol or m ethanol b ase coolants or
p lain w ater a r e not recom m ended.
IMPORTANT: DO NOT run engine when gauge
o r t e ll-ta le in d icates "hot" engine. A lso DO NOT
u se g lycol ether (methoxypropanol) b a se coolant in
GMC D ie se l en gin es, a s damage to head gasket
could resu lt.
V-BELT TENSION
Fan belt ten sion on v e h ic le s equipped with
V -b e lts should be adjusted to 120-130 pounds on
new b e lts using B T -3 3 -7 3 F B elt T ension Gauge.
U sed drive V -b e lts should be adjusted to 80-90
pounds. Gauge should be p laced at center of the
g r e a te st span.
IMPORTANT: A fter a b elt has been in o p er
ation one hour or approxim ately 50 m ile s, it is
co n sid ered u sed . B elt d r e ssin g can be u sed to e x
tend b elt life . When V -b e lts a re worn they should
be rep laced as e x c e s s iv e tightening w ill not p r e
vent slip p age and can cau se dam age to b earin gs.
SPECIFICATIONS
The cooling sy ste m ca p a cities lis te d below apply to v e h ic le s with
standard equipment only. B eca u se of som e optional equipment which
may be used , air conditioning, la r g e r engine, w ater filte r , in c rea sed
cooling, e tc ., the capacity of cooling sy ste m w ill vary. For the purpose
of obtaining an accu rate cooling sy ste m capacity b efore adding anti
fr e e z e to an optional equipped v eh icle, it is recom m ended that the c o o l
ing sy ste m be fir s t rep len ish ed until v isib le in fille r opening and then
drained into a graduated container of which the contents can be m easured.
