Optional Underbed Obstruction Sensor (Spirit Select™)
If your Spirit Select™ is equipped with the optional underbed obstruction sensor, the bed will be
outfitted with 6 obstruction sensor pads as shown below.
Obstruction sensor pad for castor cover
Obstruction sensor pads for primary leg top and bottom
covers
Contact with an obstruction while the bed is in downward motion
When any of the obstruction sensors make contact with a foreign object during any lowering motion of
the bed (BED DOWN, TREND or rev.TREND), the bed will immediately stop all downward motion and
automatically elevate the bed up a safety distance of 1”. This will provide clearance for removal of the
obstruction.
After an obstruction has been detected, the obstruction indicator (BED UP button) will immediately begin
to flash and an audible “chirp” will sound. A warning message will display on the LCD screen for 5
seconds.
All bed motion will be disabled until such time that all buttons are released. Also, once an obstruction
has been detected, further attempts to lower the bed or to attempt Trendelenburg or Reverse
Trendelenburg operation will not be permitted.
Contact with an obstruction while bed is stationary (ie: not in motion)
When an obstruction is detected prior to any bed movement, the OBSTRUCTION INDICATOR (BED UP
button) will immediately begin to flash and will remain flashing until such time that the obstruction is
removed. All downward motion of the bed platform (BED DOWN, TREND or rev.TREND) will be disabled
and a warning message will be displayed on the LCD screen if a bed lowering movement is attempted.
When the obstruction has been removed, the OBSTRUCTION INDICATOR light will stop flashing and
normal bed operation will be restored.
VISUAL OBSTRUCTION INDICATORS:
In addition to operating BED UP functionality, the BED UP button
illuminates & flashes whenever an underbed obstruction has been detected.
The menu display show a warning message.
AUDIO OBSTRUCTION INDICATORS:
An audible “chirp” will sound when an obstruction is contacted during bed
motion. If the an obstruction is contacted prior to any bed movement, no
“chirp” will sound.
