AF-Assist Beam
Under low light, the AF-assist beam may be lit continuously when you
press the shutter button halfway. This makes it easier to focus with AF.

The AF-assist beam does not fire when [

A small series of flashes is fired by external flash units equipped with an
IR AF-assist beam. However, the beam does not fire when you are using
a Speedlite 90EX, Macro Ring Lite, or Macro Twin Lite, or in wireless
flash shooting using radio or optical transmission.

A small series of flashes is fired even if you set the external flash’s AF-
assist beam emission method in the Personal Functions to infrared AF-
assist beam firing. To disable AF-assist beam firing, set [
