CAE SimuFlite
If a thrust reverser deploys inadver-
tently during takeoff or while in
flight, the feedback system physi-
cally moves the power lever to
IDLE, which reduces the thrust on
the affected engine to IDLE during
the transition cycle of the thrust
reverser. See Emergency Proce-
dures, this section.
If thrust reversers are inadvertently
deployed, the throttle feedback sys-
tem brings the throttle to approxi-
mately idle thrust, depending on the
amount of throttle friction applied.
After the device activates, it is possi-
ble to advance the throttle lever; this
creates corresponding reverse thrust.
Squat Switches
Squat switches on the left and right
main landing gear (see Landing Gear
chapter) prevent actuation of the
thrust reversers in flight. Compres-
sion of either landing gear when the
aircraft is on the ground mechani-
cally actuates the switch and allows
both deploy solenoids to operate.
If the reversers are in the Unlock or
Deploy condition with either Squat
switch not indicating Ground posi-
tion, the MASTER WARNING
annunciators illuminate.
For this reason, deploying the thrust
reversers before the nosewheel is firm-
ly on the runway may cause the mas-
ter warning system to trip if either
wheel becomes unweighted and opens
the corresponding Squat switch.
The stow solenoid does not require
squat switch input to operate.
Deployment
The reversers are designed for
deployment during landing ground
roll only. For deployment, move the
throttle levers to IDLE and the thrust
reverser levers to the DEPLOY posi-
tion to activate the deploy switches
under the throttle quadrant. During
deployment, the following occurs.

The throttle lock solenoid pre-
vents thrust reverser lever move-
ment beyond IDLE REVERSE
until thrust reverser is fully
deployed.
n
The aircraft hydraulic open cen-
ter bypass valve closes to pres-
surize the aircraft hydraulic
system; the HYD PRESS ON
annunciator illuminates.
n
The isolation valve opens to
direct hydraulic pressure to the
thrust reverser system; the ARM
annunciator illuminates when the
system is pressurized.
n
If either landing gear squat
switch actuates, the deploy sole-
noid on the thrust reverser con-
trol valve is energized and the
control valve opens to apply
hydraulic pressure to the deploy
port of the actuators.

Movement of the actuators and
reversing mechanism unlocks the
doors; the UNLOCK annuncia-
tor illuminates as soon as the
reverser doors are unlocked and
deployment begins.

The actuators move approxi-
mately five inches; this causes the
lower bucket actuating arm to
depress the deploy switch to illu-
minate the DEPLOY annunciator.
When the doors are fully extended,
the ARM, UNLOCK, and DEPLOY
annunciators (
Figure 5J-3,
previous
page) and HYD PRESS ON annun-
ciator illuminate. The throttle lock
solenoid is energized to permit thrust
reverser lever movement aft to
increase power for reverse thrust.
NOTE:
The DEPLOY annuncia-
tor should illuminate in less than
1.5 seconds after the UNLOCK
annunciator illuminates. An errone-
ous sequencing or a delay in the
illumination of the thrust reverser
annunciators indicates a failure in
the thrust reverser system. Either or
both conditions require a mainte-
nance check.
