CAUTION RESET switch is
pressed.
With the INV 1/NORM/INV 2 switch
in NORM, Main bus DC power flows
to both inverters. The inverters then
power their respective buses. In either
INV 1 or INV 2, the switch removes
power to the DC grounding circuit
that connects each inverter to its Main
DC bus, thereby removing power to
the AC buses, thereby isolating the
inverter from the AC system, pre-
venting any further damage.
With the ON/OFF switch is in ON,
the switch removes power from the
normally closed Avionics bus relays.
These relays connect the Avionics
buses to their respective DC buses.
The switch provides DC power to the
Avionics bus relays in OFF, thereby
disconnecting the avionics from their
DC power sources. The avionics
master switch does not have to be in
ON for the inverters to operate.
With the battery switch in EMER and
neither generator connected to the
Main DC bus, the Emergency Avion-
ics bus is powered when the DC mas-
ter switch is in either ON or OFF.
Switching Relays
Each side of the AC electrical sys-
tem has a pair of relays that connects
an operating inverter to a failed
inverter's AC buses. Normally, the
26V and 115V AC inverter outputs
provide power to the relay solenoids.
The solenoids maintain the connec-
tion between the inverter and its 26V
and 115V buses. If an inverter AC
output fails, the INV 1/NORM/INV
2 switch must be manually selected
to the operating inverter. This sends
power to the solenoids, which opens
a second set of contacts that con-
nects the opposite inverter to the
failed inverter's bus.
In the case of an inverter failure, the
pilot must select the opposite
inverter by positioning the INV 1/
NORM/INV 2 switch to the operat-
ing inverter. This will result in the
remaining (selected) inverter power-
ing both buses.
Failure Annunciators
The AC inverter system has one AC
FAIL annunciator and two INVTR
FAIL 1/2 annunciators. The fault
monitor continuously monitors
inverter output and frequency. During
inverter start up, an AC FAIL warn-
ing light may appear. Under normal
conditions, the AC FAIL warning
light will clear when the inverters are
operating in phase.
If an inverter trips off-line due to DC
power loss, overvoltage, or under-
voltage, the respective amber INVTR
FAIL 1/2 annunciator illuminates.
The red AC FAIL and MASTER
WARNING RESET annunciators
will not illuminate with a single
inverter failure (when the inverter
itself just fails). (See below for dual
inverter failure). However, if any of
the left and right 26V or 115V AC
Bus CB's disconnect, bus sensors
may trip the red AC FAIL and MAS-
TER WARNING RESET annuncia-
tors. This type of failure may be
unrecoverable in flight, resulting in
inoperative AC-powered equipment.
If an inverter fails or malfunctions,
there is usually a power drop or
surge on the 115V AC bus before the
inverter drops off-line. The respec-
tive amber INVTR FAIL 1/2 annun-
ciator illuminates and the MASTER
CAUTION light illuminates to indi-
cate this power failure. Resetting the
MASTER CAUTION switch will
not cancel the INVTR FAIL 1/2 light
unless the failure has been cleared.
The failed inverter's INVTR FAIL
annunciator remains illuminated to
indicate the malfunctioning unit. If
the fault has cleared, the correspond-
ing inverter annunciator light extin-
