Procedures
Preflight
Check the fluid level in the reservoir
during the preflight inspection by
visually checking the reservoir
plunger. Check all visible hydraulic
lines and components for leaks.
Abnormal
Procedures
There are no emergency procedures
associated with the hydraulic sys-
tem. Please refer to your SimuFlite
Operating Handbook for detailed
checklists.
Low Hydraulic Fluid Level
Illumination of the amber LO HYD
LEVEL annunciator indicates fluid
level in the hydraulic reservoir is at
0.2 gallons (approximately the refill
mark) or less. This indication is nor-
mally caused by a system leak.
When the system is completely
empty, both LO HYD FLOW annun-
ciators illuminate.
The speedbrakes and thrust reversers
may not operate. In addition, landing
gear may require emergency exten-
sion procedures. Land as soon as
practical.
LO HYD FLOW
Annunciator Illuminated
The LO HYD FLOW L/R annuncia-
tor illuminates indicating the left
and/or right hydraulic pump flow
rate is below normal (i.e. less than
0.45 ± 0.10 GPM). This annunciator
is normally associated with pump
failure or engine shutdown. Cycling
time of hydraulically actuated func-
tions may increase.
If both pumps fail, the speedbrakes,
and thrust reversers are inoperative.
The landing gear must be lowered by
emergency procedures.
Hydraulic System
Remains Pressurized
If the HYD PRESS annunciator
remains illuminated, the bypass valve
has failed in the closed position. The
MASTER CAUTION annunciator
will illuminate if the HYD PRESS
annunciator remains illuminated for
more than 10 seconds.
Pull the subsystem CBs one at a time
to isolate the bypass valve. Pulling
the correct CB removes electrical
power from the affected control
valve. The valve then opens and
relieves the hydraulic pressure. If the
system remains pressurized after this
procedure, the bypass valve is
mechanically damaged. Land as
soon as practical.
Reset CBs before landing.
In some situations, the bypass valve
may fail open and pressure is not
available to the systems. The HYD
PRESS annunciator does not illumi-
nate. In this case, land as soon as
practical. The speedbrakes, and
thrust reversers are not available; the
landing gear is inoperative using
normal procedures.
CAUTION:
Skydrol hydraulic
fluid, when heated to approximately
279°C, decomposes into acids and
other products and could cause
damage to system components.
