Buses are lost, neither the autopilot
nor the flight director can be used.
Land as soon as practical.
If any of the CBs are open, do not
reset them unless they were uninten-
tionally tripped by the crew. Reset-
ting an open AC circuit breaker may
cause additional system damage.
Depending on the buses lost, differ-
ent avionics systems are inoperative.
Refer to the AC schematic for a list-
ing of systems powered by the AC
buses. Consult the Pilot Operating
Handbook (Checklist) for the appro-
priate procedures.
Battery Overheat
Illumination of the BATT O'TEMP
and MASTER WARNING annunci-
ators as well as an excessive temper-
ature indication on the battery
temperature gauge indicates a bat-
tery overtemperature condition.
Positioning the battery switch to
EMER should open the battery relay
to isolate the generators from the
battery and terminate charging.
Check for an amperage drop to
ensure that charging has terminated.
In the EMER position, all electrical
equipment will continue to receive
power since the generators are still
on the line. The emergency DC bus
is powered by the battery. Battery
voltage may now be read with the
voltage selector in BATT and gener-
ator bus voltage with the voltage
selector in L GEN or R GEN. Indi-
vidual generator voltages can be
read by selecting one L or R GEN
and turning the other generator OFF.
If battery voltage is one volt less
than generator voltage in 30 seconds
to 2 minutes, monitor the battery
overheat annunciator for possible
change.
If the battery relay is not stuck and
there is a decrease in battery amper-
age, place the battery switch to OFF
to allow the generators to power
Emergency bus items. The voltmeter
will be inoperative. The battery tem-
perature may continue to rise tempo-
rarily and cause the BATT O'TEMP
annunciator to flash before begin-
ning to cool down.
If the BATT O'TEMP annunciator
extinguishes and battery temperature
decreases, place the battery switch to
BATT. Land as soon as possible.
If there is no decrease in battery
amperage or the red BATT O'TEMP
and/or >160° annunciator flashes, set
the battery switch to EMER, turn the
floodlights to FULL BRIGHT (at
night), and turn both generator
switches OFF. If the battery relay is
not stuck with the generators off, the
BATT O'TEMP annunciator extin-
guishes immediately along with a
loss of all main DC power. With the
switch in EMER and the generators
OFF, the emergency power relay
closes to supply battery power from
the Hot Battery bus to the Emergency
bus. A fully charged battery can
power the Emergency bus for at least
30 minutes (refer to Table 5C-A).
The standby attitude indicator will
continue to operate powered by its
own emergency battery pack. This bat-
tery pack also provides 5V emergency
instrument lighting for the standby
gyro, the standby HSI, the N
2
/ITT
indicators, and the standby altimeter/
airspeed indicator vibrator. Ensure that
the cabin services (refreshment center,
cabin lights) are OFF.
See Table 5C-C for systems made
inoperative with the battery switch
in EMER and the generator switches
OFF.
