With an engine fire or failure indica-
tion after V
1
, continue the takeoff.
Maintain directional control using
the rudder/nosewheel steering, and
accelerate to V
R
. At V
R
, rotate the
aircraft to FD command bars
(approximately 12°) nose-up and
climb at V
2
. If the indication occurs
after exceeding V
2
, maintain the
existing airspeed. Retract the land-
ing gear when a positive rate of
climb is established.
When clear of obstacles and at Level
Off Altitude, accelerate to V
2
+10
KIAS and retract the flaps. Increase
speed to V
ENR
and then continue the
climb to the required altitude above
the takeoff field elevation.
In case of engine fire, consideration
must be given to fighting the fire
once the flaps are retracted and the
aircraft is accelerating toward V
ENR
.
However, seriously consider climb-
ing to a safe IFR altitude and level
off first before starting the fire fight-
ing procedures.
When time and conditions permit,
complete the Engine Failure/Fire
checklist and the Climb checklist.
Single Engine
Precision Approach
and Landing
Refer to the profile on page 3D-45.
A single engine inoperative
approach is flown essentially the
same as an approach with both
engines operating. On final
approach, however, do not lower full
flaps until landing is assured.
Up to the final descent point, the air-
craft is configured normally with the
previously recommended speeds
flown for each configuration. A sin-
gle engine thrust setting is approxi-
mately 10% higher than comparable
two engine settings.
Extend full flaps when runway prox-
imity does not require additional
engine thrust to overcome flap drag
to arrive at the normal touchdown
point. Once the flaps are full down,
retard the operating engine throttle
to idle as the aircraft crosses the run-
way threshold at V
REF
+wind factor.
The pilot may, at his/her discretion
choose to land with flaps in the
approach position to prevent destabi-
lizing the approach on short final; or
to always be ready in anticipation of
a balked landing, go-around or
missed approach. If that is the case,
ensure the appropriate performance
charts have been consulted for
increased Ref speeds, landing dis-
tances and approach/climb gradient
requirements in the event of a
missed approach.
If rudder trim is used during approach
to counter asymmetric thrust, zero the
rudder trim prior to or during the
landing power reduction to prevent
unwanted yaw. Thrust reduction and
flare are similar to a normal landing.
NOTE:
At pilot’s discretion,
flaps may remain at *T.O. and
APPR position, or reset to land.
If T.O. and APPR Flaps setting is
used, maintain V
REF
+ 10 KIAS or
“ON SPEED” (.6) Angle-of-
Attack.
