Damper functionality
Each damper is divided into two chambers, with film attached to the top of the chamber to the right as indicated within
the diagram.
The film is loosely attached to allow it to expand outward corresponding to the increase of pressure and relax inward
when the pressure decreases due to the dynamic pressure variation within the ink supply tube, thus serving to buffer the
pressure.
Without the damper, the dynamic pressure of the ink will directly influence the ink discharge from the ink-jet head,
causing the print quality to deteriorate.
Air buffering functionality
Minor quantities of air are dissolved in the fluid ink. The air occasionally develops into large bubbles under the influence
of pressure variation applied to the ink.
Pressure differences within the ink-jet head channels are caused by the movement of the piezoelectric actuators. In
order to prevent large air bubbles from developing within ink channels and adversely affecting the print quality, it
becomes necessary to remove most of the bubbles before the ink reaches the print head nozzles.
To eliminate the air bubbles, the damper assy is equipped with a chamber serving as air buffers (left chamber).
The ink supplied from the tube is temporarily retained within the damper assy. The left chamber of the assy retains the
air bubbles caused by the pressure variation and exhausts the air from venting channels to prevent the intrusion of the
air into print head nozzles.
