7 Introduction
The purpose of preventative maintenance (PM) is to ensure performance and stability over
the lifetime of a system.
Note: A PM should be performed once a year.
Preparing for a PM visit is essential as in most cases it is completed as a part of an
institution’s Continuity Agreement.
PM consists of eight steps. Some of these steps refer to specific sections in this
Service
Manual . If an error occurs during a procedure, refer to section 4: Troubleshooting .
7.1 Required Equipment
The Equipment required for a PM visit can be divided into three sections:
Parts Required to Ensure System Performance and Stability
Check the Service Information bulletins (Hotline) posted on the BK Ultrasound Service Web
for any system modifications or important software updates to be completed.
Parts Required to Respond to Customer Requests and/or Complaints
Before arranging the PM visit, check to see if the customer has made any complaints or
requests. Be sure to bring the spare parts, software, and tools necessary to resolve any
issues.
Standard Tools and Equipment Required to Perform the PM
The equipment required to perform a PM is the same as used in section 3 Checking
Procedure and Electrical Safety Test .
Section 3, Checking Procedure :

A Transducer.

USB flash key for exporting data.

A phantom for ultrasound.
Electrical Safety Test :

Medical approved safety tester.

bkSpecto Electrical Safety Test Record (document number TS43494 ).

Setup for electrical safety test according to IEC/EN 60601-1 or IEC/EN 62353:2014.
Note: As a precaution, BK Ultrasound recommends bringing the Static Control Service Kit in case
one of the static-sensitive boards must be accessed.
7.2 Performing a PM
Perform the procedures detailed in the following sections (7.2.1 to 7.2.10).

Check with the customer to ensure the system is operating in a satisfactory manner.
