At this stage the instrument reads, for 5 seconds, the pH difference between EL 2 - EL 1 =

mpH; called D1. The electrodes contain exactly the same solution, the pH difference should 

be zero (in fact between

 150 mpH). The signal measured will be subtracted during the 

following measure.
