Installation & Service Manual
Commissioning the Multiviewer
Connect the multiviewer as follows.
1 With the Kaleido
-
IP frame installed in its designated rack position, power up the frame.
The multiviewer starts up. The startup sequence takes approximately four minutes.
2 Connect your Kaleido
-
IP multiviewer’s Ethernet ports to two or more Ethernet switches
(one
Management Network
and one or more
Media Networks

3 Connect a client PC, and the Kaleido-RCP2 (if available) to the switch on
LAN1
. You can
also connect a mouse and a keyboard to your Kaleido-RCP2.
4 Connect one of the DisplayPort outputs of the multiviewer to a display that supports a
resolution of 1920 × 1080 @ 60 Hz (HDTV) (see
Note:
To disconnect an RJ-45 network cable connected to the optional
LAN5
or
LAN6
media ports, you may need to use the blade of a flat
screwdriver to reach the cable’s locking mechanism.

• The Kaleido-RCP2 is an optional device, and may not have been shipped
with your Kaleido
-
IP system. For information on this and other options for
your multiviewer system, contact your Grass Valley sales representative.
• You may need to upgrade your Kaleido-RCP2 devices (if available) to the
, on page 15. Refer to
the
Kaleido-RCP2 Guide to Installation and Operation
for instructions on
how to determine the firmware level, and how to perform the upgrade.

Notes
• Depending on your display type, you may use the DisplayPort-to-HDMI
active adapter that shipped with your system, or DisplayPort-to-DVI
adapters (not included).
• To support 1080i outputs, use an optional DisplayPort-to-HDMI passive
adapter. Note that a DisplayPort-to-HDMI passive adapter will not support
4K/UHD. Contact Technical Support to purchase DisplayPort-to-HDMI
passive adapters that have been tested to work with this multiviewer. See

• Although the Kaleido
-
IP unit has four DisplayPort outputs, only the first
two DisplayPort outputs are used.
• To disconnect a display cable at the DisplayPort outputs, you may need to
use an object (e.g., the blade of a flat screwdriver) to reach the cable’s
locking mechanism.
• Disconnecting and reconnecting any Kaleido
-
IP DisplayPort-to-HDMI
adapter may require a restart. The adapter cables must be properly
connected when the multiviewer restarts. If you connect such an adapter
after the multiviewer has restarted, the display will remain blank.
