Avanti Installation Manual 2.0
Fault calls and Service Restoration
Transceiver hardware verification.
If none of the above checks resolve the encountered issue then initially the transceiver unit should be changed
and the system retested. If this resolves the problem then the transceiver unit should be suspected as faulty and
returned to Avanti via the RMA process for testing and replacement.
If the symptom is not resolved the old transceiver unit should be refitted and focus directed to the terminal.
Terminal hardware verification.
To initial test the suspected terminal it should be swapped for either a live test terminal (beam dependent) or a
new terminal.
Using a test terminal.
Using a live test terminal you will only need to reset the Gps coordinates in the advanced menu of the AFA and
then enable the TX. This should now show RX and TX lock if this is so then the existing terminal can be presumed
as faulty and should be permanently replaced with a new unit as below. If the RX or TX fails to lock then the fault
is not with the terminal and the original terminal should be reconnected, this would now suggest that the fault
lies with either the connectors or the cable which should be replaced.
Using a new terminal.
Using a new replacement terminal for testing of RX / TX faults requires a scheduled job in the AFA. Connect the
replacement terminal and proceed to select Hughes install from the AFA menu. Follow the pre alignment setup
until you reach the “now align antenna” screen, at this point you should see the signal status bar shows green, if
so click the enable TX button and the terminal should now range and lock the TX. If the RX or TX fails to lock then
the fault is not with the terminal and the original terminal should be reconnected, this would now suggest that the
fault lies with either the connectors or the cable which should be replaced. If the RX and TX are now locked then
the existing terminal can be presumed as faulty and should be permanently replaced with the new unit as below.
Permanent terminal replacement.
With the pre-alignment configuration completed you should be at the antenna alignment screen and have both RX
and TX lock. Before continuing you will need to call Avanti technical support (+44(0)2077498105) to remove
the old terminal from the Hub at the ground station so that the new terminal can be fully commissioned. Once
you have be told that the old terminal has been removed you can proceed with the auto commission of the
replacement terminal by clicking the auto commission button, the process will now complete automatically as if it
was a new installation. Once completed test the terminal and complete the report as for a new install. The old
faulty terminal should be returned to Avanti for further testing and replacement (See Rma section below)
System light issues.
If the system light is missing on the terminal and no or slow browsing found this would indicate that the auto
commission has not fully completed or the configuration is incomplete on the NOC. Investigate as follows checking
for the system light after each stage.
1.
Using the advanced option in the AFA select force range and complete a force range of the terminal.
2.
Using the AFA advanced option select reboot / restore, then select restore to factory (Before using this option
ensure you have a job loaded in the AFA schedule for the site you are attending) once the terminal has
rebooted select Hughes install from the AFA menu and re-commission the terminal. (There is no requirement
to call Avanti TS for this part of the process as long as the same terminal is being re-installed)
3.
Once 1 and 2 above have been tried you should contact Avanti technical support (+44(0)2077498105) who
will carry out further testing on the NOC.
