Off Air Caller Feed Selection
Make sure that the phone section is OFF (OFF BUTTON is lit). Press the
SELECT BUTTON. The button lights, the CHANNEL DISPLAY shows
CALL OFF, and the SOURCE DISPLAY shows the current off air caller
feed. The ENTER BUTTON begins to flash. Turn the SELECT KNOB until
the desired off air caller feed shows in the SOURCE DISPLAY, then press
the ENTER BUTTON (the ENTER BUTTON stops flashing) to select the
source. The source name shows in the phone section DISPLAY, and the
SELECT BUTTON light goes off. Each caller will hear the displayed
source, along with the other caller’s voice, when the phone is off air. In each
caller’s feed, the caller’s own voice is absent.
The off air caller feed source can be any signal appearing at a console
input connector (except the caller inputs and the producer talkback input),
any of the four main buses, or either of the general purpose mix-minus
buses. As mentioned previously, the caller feed will never contain the
caller’s own voice.
Selection Timeout
If you don’t hit the ENTER BUTTON or move the SELECT KNOB for
ten seconds the select process will terminate, leaving the selection for the
phone section unchanged.
Bus Assign Buttons
Pressing any of the four BUS ASSIGN BUTTONS causes the audio of
both callers to be included in the output mix for that bus, at a level dependent
on the FADER setting for the individual caller, as long as the phone section
is ON (see ON AND OFF BUTTONS). The button will be lit when the
phone is assigned to its respective bus. To remove the phone from a bus to
which it is currently assigned, press the button again; the light will go off to
indicate that the phone is no longer assigned to that bus. As mentioned
before, if the caller on feed auto select feature has been enabled, the phone
section can only be assigned to one bus at a time.
Cue Button
Press the CUE BUTTON. The callers will be included in the cue output
at a level that follows of the FADER setting for that caller (unlike cue assign
on a normal input fader, which is pre-fade), and the button will light. The
phone does not need to be turned ON. If the phone is OFF and in cue, the
assignment to cue will be automatically canceled when the ON BUTTON
is pressed. To remove the phones from cue, press the CUE BUTTON again;
the light will go off to indicate the phone is no longer assigned to cue. The
operator microphone(s) may be set up to allow the console operator to talk
to the callers while the phone is in cue. When the phone is no longer in cue
the callers will once again hear the caller feed (on air or off air, depending
on the ON status of the phone).
