it will be made inactive while the external COUGH button is being held
down, and will again activate when the COUGH button is released. If the
microphone is currently inactive, the button has no effect.
TALKBACK TO CUE (TBQ) LOGIC INPUT - used to connect an
external user-supplied button that enables the person activating it to talk to
the operator in the Control Room, via the console’s cue speaker. It is
important to realize that, if cue is muted for any reason, the talent voice will
not be heard in the cue speaker.
ON TALLY LOGIC OUTPUT - can be used to give a remote indication
of the ON status of the fader.
LINE PORT FUNCTIONS
The line port logic functions are START, STOP, ON, OFF, and READY,
and are normally used in conjunction with local machines, such as cart
machines, CD players, etc..
START LOGIC OUTPUT - when the ON BUTTON is pressed the
START output causes the machine feeding the fader to start playing.
STOP LOGIC OUTPUT - when the OFF BUTTON is pressed the STOP
output causes the machine feeding the fader to stop playing.
ON LOGIC INPUT - allows the machine to turn the fader ON, just as if
the ON button had been pressed on the fader.
OFF LOGIC INPUT - allows the machine to turn the fader OFF, just as
if the OFF button had been pressed on the fader.
READY LOGIC INPUT - some machines may provide a ready signal to
indicate that an audio cut is cued up and ready to be played. The machine’s
ready output will control the illumination of the OFF BUTTON.
LOGIC PORT WIRING CONSIDERATIONS
The Logic port signals are all opto-isolated.
To activate a logic input you need to provide an external source of +5V
and ground. If you are using a switch on a logic input, wire it as follows, using
the ON LOGIC INPUT as an example. C5V to the input’s plus (+)
terminal (in the example, pin 1 of the appropriate logic port DB-25 connec-
tor). Connect the input’s minus (-) terminal (pin 14) to one side of a single
pole, single throw switch, such as a push button switch. Connect the other
side of the switch back to the ground connection of the ex5V supply.
In this way, pressing the switch will activate the logic input.
When wiring a logic input to a machine, the same mechanism, which is
the application of 5V in the correct polarity to the inputs plus and minus
terminals. The machine will often be the source of the external voltage.
Consult the machine’s documentation.
